Child Identification
Policy/Procedure SS-15
Policy: The Indiana School for the Blind shall comply with federal law pertaining to child identification activities, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 34 CFR Parts 300.220.222 and Part 300.561; the Indiana Code 10-1-6; and the Indiana Administrative Code 511 IAC 7-4; as well as other related requirements.
Procedure: The Indiana School for the Blind shall cooperate with the local education agency who has the responsibility to provide a full educational opportunity to all children with handicaps, aged birth through twenty-one (21), including identifying children with disabilities. The Director of Outreach will have the responsibility to coordinate child find activities with the local education agencies.
The Indiana School for the Blind shall assist the local education agency in identifying and locating all out-of-school children with handicaps birth through twenty-one (21) residing within its jurisdiction, and who are in need of special education and related services. All individuals and/or agencies as identified by law who can benefit from the information for future programs and/or educational opportunities will be included in the identification process. This includes children currently not in public school but being served by private or other nonpublic agencies.
