INDIANA SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED
Policy S-06
Any person violates school policy and/or state law if he or she 1) possesses or is under the influence of controlled substances such as alcoholic beverages or narcotics within one thousand feet of school property; 2) misuses non-controlled substances such as, but not limited to, glue, aerosols, or typewriter erasing paint which, if ingested or inhaled, alters an individual’s functioning; or 3) misuses prescribed medications.
It is the policy of the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired that all ISBVI employees, contractors, volunteers, or students immediately report to the ISBVI Superintendent, or his or her designee, when they are aware of, or suspect use or possession of controlled substances or misuse of non-controlled substances or prescription medications.
The ISBVI Board directs the ISBVI Superintendent to ensure ISBVI staff, contractor, volunteer, and student compliance with this policy consistent with statutory requirements by:
1) Developing ISBVI Administrative Directives and Procedures to implement the ISBVI Board Policy on Substance Abuse to a) serve as notice to staff, contractors, volunteers, and students; and b) clearly delineate and detail their responsibilities, expectations, and procedures to follow;
2) Providing ISBVI staff, contractors, and volunteers written notice and documenting their awareness and receipt of these documents by obtaining their signatures;
3) Affording initial and periodic on-going training to ISBVI staff, contractors and volunteers on the ISBVI Board Policy on Substance Abuse and accompanying ISBVI Administrative Directives and Procedures.
