Cane Sources

Text Box: O&M
Text Box: There are many different sources for white canes. Like anything else, there are various factors that need to be considered when purchasing a cane.
The use of a cane should be in conjunction with instruction by a certified O&M instructor.
The height of the cane is generally measured from approximately 2-inches above the base of the sternum to the floor. However, there are many other factors that need to be considered. They include, but are not limited to: length of stride, pace, reaction time, and preference for a longer cane.
The following are a few cane sources that you could consider:
Advantage Canes from Revolution Enterprises, Inc: 12170 Dearborn Place, Poway, CA 92064. 1-800-382-5132 www.advantagecanes.com
Ambutech: 34 DeBaets Street, Winnipeg, Canada R2J3S9. 1-800-561-3340 www.ambutech.com
California Canes: 16267 Walnut Street, Hesperia, CA 92345. 1-866-332-4883 www.californiacanes.com
Guild for the Blind: 180 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601. (312) 236-8569 www.guildfortheblind.org
In addition to ordering directly from cane companies, canes can be ordered through many of the general products catalogs and organizations that can be found on the internet. These include, but are not limited to, Maxiaids, LS&S, Independent Living, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, National Federation of the Blind, and the American Council for the Blind.
Although we use graphite straight and folding Advantage Canes on campus, there are a variety of canes available. We do not endorse one particular cane or style of cane over another and encourage you to find the cane that best fits you.
